Pieter Persoy (fl.1675-1695) was a publisher and engraver in Amsterdam who compiled fifteen maps for the more famous Frederick de Wit around 1680. This very rare map of Brittany in France very rarely appears on the market and certainly not in this excellent condition. The map extends southwards to the Isle de Re and La Rochelle and is in beautiful early wash colour. A naval battle is depicted offshore from Belle Isle. The map is dedicated by the authore to Joanni Six, a Dutch poet and literary figure of the day. The ornate cartouche is of particular importance being beautifully engraved by the great Romein de Hooghe. GAUDILLAT, Claude. “Cartes anciennes de la Bretagne, 1582-1800”, planche n°28.
