A rare map of the British Isles by Claude Barthélemy Morisot (1592-1661). He was a leading intellectual figure of his day. This map is from the ‘Orbis maritimi sive rerum in mari et littoribus gestarum generalis historia’, his best work and the first comprehensive book on naval history. The map is printed on a sheet with Latin text. Longitude and latitude figures are found on three sides and it is embellished with a title cartouche upper left. Alden, J. 643/85; Nordenskiold Collection (1979) no. 152; Shirley (1991) 532; Shirley (2004) G.MORI-1a.
