This patriotic piece was published by John Luffman, an engraver, author, publisher and goldsmith, he began his career in about 1776. The imprint is 377 Strand, London, which he occupied from 1807 until he died in 1820. A miniature map of the British Isles is encircled by ‘Britannia The Pride of the Sea. Superiority.’ With a title above reading ‘Oh! ‘Tis a Tight Little Island!’ Below this is a song whose words are supplied by John Luffman comparing Britain to other nations in the world. The tune it is set to is Henry Carey’s 1725 tune entitled ‘Sally in our Alley’, a popular English country dance. A wonderful rare item of ephemera with cartographic interest.
