The brothers Reiner and Joshua formed their partnership in 1726. Their atlases lack any date, and the earlier issued ones are invariably entitled ‘Atlas’. This is an early title page engraved by I. van Munnikhuysen whose imprint is lower right. According to Koeman it was used in the very first atlas productions. It illustrates three figures studying the globe. In the background Atlas is holding aloft a celestial globe. Above that are cherubs holding aloft a banner bearing the title. Koeman III pp. 85-9.
