‘Zacharias Heyns was the son of Pieter Heyns who wrote the rhyming text for the miniature Ortelius, Spieghel Der Werelt, first published in 1577. This atlas proved to be very successful. In 1598 Zacharias tried to emulate his father by publishing his Le Miroir du Monde which was clearly designed after it. However, there is no other connection with the Ortelius atlases. All of the maps for this work are woodcuts. It was one of the last atlases produced using this medium. By now the dominant method of map production was by copperplate.’ (Burden). With French text on the verso. Provenance: acquired from Doreen Green 2004; private English collection. Refer Burden (1996) 111; Koeman (1967-70) vol. 2 p. 132; Shirley (1991) 202; Shirley (2004) T.Heyn 1a..
