This is sometimes referred to as the Hills plan as it is taken from ‘an actual survey in the possession of Jno. Hills, late lieutt. in the 23d. Regt. & asst. engr.’ ‘This is a fine platt of the area of Yorktown showing the positions of the armies and the fleets. Roads, houses, troop placements, lines of fire, and the configuration of the land is shown in detail. Hauchering is used to designate elevation. A manuscript plan similar to this is in the Rochambeau collection. Overall for a map I know of appearing on the market only twice in over 20 years (the last time being 1989) a very acceptable example. ‘ Nebenzahl ‘Battle Plans’ no. 195; Verner no. 13; Sellers & Van Ee nos. 1473 (manuscript) & 1474; Pritchard & Taliaferro no. 67.
