JEFFERYS, Thomas & FADEN, William

A Plan of the Cities of London and Westminster, with the Borough of Southwark

London, 1782
325 x 555 mm., early outline colour, cut and dissected on linen, complete with original publishers marbled paper slipcase with original publishers label affixed, in good condition.
William Faden (1749-1836) worked in partnership with Thomas Jefferys before taking control of the business in 1783 not long after his death. The first state of this fine attractive plan of London was issued in 1775 according to Howgego. It extends to Islington, Stepney, Lambeth and Hyde Park. The City of London’s arms are prominent lower centre with those of the City of Westminster on the left and Bridge House on the right. A note states that the City limits are highlighted in red but unlike this example many were left uncoloured. Worms & Baynton-Williams (2011) pp. 221-5; Darlington & Howgego (1964) 162 st. 4. Not in the British Library.
