An uncommon map of China engraved by the highly noted Wenceslaus Hollar. Across the top of the map is the Great Wall of China. The outline of China is derived from that of Joan Blaeu and Martino Martini. Japan is derived from the models of Antonio Cardim and Nicolas Sanson. An excellent example in early outline colour. The map itself is dated by Hollar 1669. This map comes from Richard Blome’s ‘Geographical Description’ first published in 1670. It was issued with the help of subscribers due to the lack of a domestic market. This explains the dedication above the title cartouche to one Thomas Robinson. Not in Chang ‘China in European Maps’; Shirley BL Atlases T.Blom 1a no. 7.
