This extremely rare map by Thomas Taylor was UNRECORDED BY SHIRLEY and survives in just THREE KNOWN EXAMPLES. Taylor (fl.1712-25) had a short minor career as a map and printseller at the Golden Lion on Fleet Street. He is probably best known for publishing the first separate atlas of Wales and for re-issuing the quarto sized Richard Blome atlas. This map falls into the extremely rare group known as diagrammatic maps of the roads of England and Wales which are after John Ogilby’s ‘Britannia’. The roads are the main feature of the map and are laid down in virtually straight double ruled lines. The computed distance in miles between towns are plotted.
