THE ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLE. The date 1730 in the title page indicates that this map was first published in that year, however no known example has ever been recorded. This example is the only one known in any state and bears the imprint of John Bowles and Son which places the date of issue to 1753 at the earliest. The title appears upper right with a further ornate cartouche upper left holding the Explanation. This diagrammatic map of the roads of England and Wales shows the roads as the main feature of the map and are laid down in virtually straight double ruled lines. The computed distance in miles between towns are plotted. Bowles 4A; not in Shirley.
