In 1783 Edward Hasted published a history of Kent which included a map of the county by Charles Downes the engraver and printer in London at 112 Fetter Lane. A second edition of the map as a separate sheet was printed in 1801 which is offered below under Charles Downes. This map has been found with the seller’s label of Bristow and Colegate. The latter was a printer and publisher who went into partnership with Mawer Cowton a local bookseller also in Canterbury around 1809. They re-issued the map in a third state with another new title above and their imprint below. The partnership dissolved in 1822 and there were three further states of the map.
