A rare detailed sea chart of the coast extending from Cape Ann, Massachusetts to Rhode Island taking in Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. It is engraved by Samuel Hill in a style reminiscent of Des Barres. It was published in the Massachusetts Magazine to accompany an article proposing a canal route through Cape Cod from Barnstable Bay to Buzzard’s Bay. This is only the second American printed map centred on Cape Cod, the first being the extremely rare Matthew Clark chart of 1789. Hill would engrave one of the first plans of the new capital as Washington the following year. Jolly 431; Not in McCorkle; Phillips Maps p. 206; Wheat & Brun 209.
