In 1783 Edward Hasted published a history of Kent which included a map of the county by Charles Downes the engraver and printer in London at 112 Fetter Lane. A second edition was printed in 1801 and although a map was not called for one was prepared and made available as a separate sheet. For this issue the title was altered to the above and the date 1801 added to it. More important was the extensive addition of new place-names. There were four further states of the map.
