This very rare new chart replaced an earlier one engraved by James Bennett. The scale of miles lower right bears an erasure to its left which Shirley speculates is that of the engraver Samuel Parker. This sea chart of southern Italy displays the peninsula south of Civitivecchia and includes Sicily, Malta including part of the coast of Barbary. It appears in Mount & Page’s ‘English Pilot Part Three’ from at least 1727, this example from 1747. To the west appears part of Sardinia and in the east Corfu. An active Mt. Etna is depicted in Sicily. Adorned with a decorative compass rose. Shirley ‘Atlases in the BL’ M.M&P 3b no. 18.
