Jules-Abel Faivre (1867-1945) was born in Lyon, France. A member of the Societe des Artistes Francais he is most famous for his propoganda posters for the French Army during the First World War such as this one. He also worked for some of the most successful magazines of the day such as Le Figaro. This image depicts a large gold coin and a Gallic cock crushing a German soldier. The translation of the title reads ‘Deposit your gold for France, Gold fights for victory’.
