The ‘Oxford Almanack’ has been published by Oxford University since 1674. It is an annual Almanac which traditionally included an engraving of the University and was accompanied by useful information such as the University calendar and the Heads of the Colleges. First published in 1674 there was none issued in the following year 1675, however it has been issued continuously since 1676. Some of the finest engravers of the day have been employed. J. M. W. Turner’s first employment was as an artist for one of the topographical scenes. The engraver in this case was George Vertue.
