A fascinating picture of Europe at a critical time in its history. 1814 saw the defeat of Napoleon approaching and by late 1814 the Congress of Vienna was sitting to decide the future shape of the continent. John Pinkerton (1758-1826) was born in Edinburgh but moved to London in 1781. He was the publisher of several works on geography and cartography but his largest atlas was the ‘Modern Atlas’ of 1815. Phillips 724.
