A fine quality work published at the peak of French abilities in this field. The delicate little plates display the engravers talents to the full. Oak Spring Flora describes the work as an “exquisite little volume, dedicated to the popular flower”. The work contains a history of roses and descriptions of a small selection of the more popular varieties. Notes are also provided on their properties and cultivation including some poems and an appendix. The plates were drawn by Pancrace Bessa and engraved by Teillard.
