A fine early lithograph from a rare work on an English expedition to Bengal. The author of ‘Memoires Relatifs a l’Expedition Anglaise partie du Bengale en 1800’ was the Comte de Noe. According to Abbey he was amongst the French nobility who fled to England during the Revolution. He joined the British Army and served in India. He was then sent to Egypt to fight the French under Napoleon at the time of the Battle of the Nile. Abbey Travel 350 no. 10.
