A fine very large scale plan of part of the City of London between Black Friars Bridge to the west and the Tower of London. A proposed new Cast Iron Bridge over the Thames is in the centre. The top of the map features the Royal Exchange. From the ‘Appendix to the Second Report, and to the Third Report for the Select Committee on the Port of London’. These plans were submitted for the much needed development of the dockland area east of London. Industrial Britain was exploding and the Port of London needed to modernise to meet the needs of a rapidly increasing flow of goods and services. The plans included new docks, bridges, roads, warehouses, quays and embankments.
