This superb sea chart of the Bristol Channel was first published in the magnificent ‘Lichtende Zee-Fakkel’ in 1681, this one being from the second volume. The firm of Van Keulen was founded around 1680 with the publication of the ‘Zee Atlas’. The multi volume ‘Zee Fakkel’ followed soon after. This map extends from ‘Montsbay’ in Cornwall to Bristol and out towards Newport in Wales. This is an example of the second state with the addition of ‘Rundle Steen’ in the lower left. With a magnificent ornate title cartouche surmounted by a portrait of Charles II. Evans, Olwen Caradoc. (1969). ‘Marine Plans and Charts of Wales’, in Map Collectors’ Circle no. 54 no. 25; Koeman (1967-70) IV no. 75 st. 2 Keu 57B.
