Pen and ink manuscript map of the settlement of Derventio dated ’31 Sept. 1721′, now known as Little Chester, the site of the original settlement of Derby centred about a mile to the south of the current city. The River Derwent is seen at the bottom with the site of the old ruins of a Roman bridge. At the top of the map is Ricning Street or Ryknield Street the old Roman Road now more familiarly known as the Icknield Way. It is pasted onto a contemporary engraving by J. Bowdell of Tissington Church, Derbyshire, dated 1773.
