This fine press edition of Moncrif’s Cats was limited to 400 of the regular cloth issue and 100 were especially bound as here in fine morocco by E. W. Hiscox. The edition was printed on Saunders mould-made paper at the Chiswick Press and illustrated with 10 collotype illustrations reproduced from the 1727 edition by Coypel. The translation from the original is identified in the title as being by Reginald Bretnor. The original edition in Paris, 1727 is the first printed book entirely devoted to cats. This example is number 96 of 100. Claire Necker ‘Four Centuries of Cat Books: A Bibliography, 1570-1970’ no. 1377.
