A very attractive map of Andalusia in southern Spain including the region around Seville including, Cadiz, Gibraltar and the popular ‘Costa del Sol’. In 1606 following Jodocus Hondius’ acquisition of Gerard Mercator’s ‘Atlas’ he published it as ‘Gerardi Mercatoris Atlas Sive Cosmographicae’ with 37 newly engraved maps, taking the total to 144. Publication had moved from Duisberg to Amsterdam and the first few editions were in Latin. This enormously influential atlas was expanded further in the ensuing years. This map strongly reflects Mercator’s style with the similar moiré engraving style denoting the oceans. With Dutch text on verso. With three ornate cartouches. Van der Krogt, P. (Atlantes) 6110:1A.1.
