On the left side are Vauxhall Bridge, Hyde Park Corner and Regents Park and on the right are the Tower of London and West India Docks. In the foreground is Lambeth Palace and in the distance the Highgate Archway can be made out. A high quality engraved view of London showing remarkable detail which is particularly notable for its depiction of South London. ‘Street names appear on the image as they would on a map. About three hundred buildings carry reference numbers. Complete, the print is accompanied by a single-sheet key, though surviving examples of this are rare’ (Hyde). An advertisement states that it had been ‘adapted for Coffee Rooms, hotels, Libraries and Public Buildings’ claiming that it ‘exhibited every Public Building, with the Docks, Railroads, Parks, Bridges, Squares, Palaces and every object worthy of notice … equally useful to resident, stranger or foreigner’ (Hyde).
