This large scale chart is of the town of Nafa now known as Naha in Okinawa, Japan. Now a major city it is depicted just before Commodore Matthew Perry’s famous expedition which opened up Japan to the world. He visited the town en route to Tokyo in 1853 and again on several occasions. The whole area covered by the map is now taken up by the city, and more. I. de la Table at the bottom of the map is now at the southern end of the airport’s runway.
