A superb large map of the African continent. Despite the lack of knowledge of the interior of the continent the map bears a reasonable amount of information. There is an inset of the Azores upper left and a superb large scale inset lower left of the Gold Coast. It is from Robert Sayer’s ‘New General Atlas’ first published in 1773, this example is from an edition dated 1780. Large textual panels inform the reader of the continent as described in the title. Phillips 668; Shirley BL T.Say 2a no. 28-9.
