A very ornate map of the north African coastline taking in present day Tunisia and Libya. It is derived from Giacomo Gastaldi’s great map of Africa and according to Ortelius from the ancient sources of Diodorus Siculus, Plinius, Virginlius, Appianus, Halicarnasseus, Athenaeus and Herodotos. It extends northwards to include Sicily and Malta. It bears a fabulous strapwork title cartouche upper right and a large cartouche at the bottom containing descriptive text and an inset plan of Carthage. With Italian text to the verso, published in 1592. From Parergon. Van den Broecke, M. #218.
