The centre sheet of the Italian edition of Truskot & Schmidt’s three sheet map of Russia first published in 1776. This example is by Giuseppe Antonio Remondini. From 1769 to 1796 Schmidt, Truskot, Islenyev and Cherny surveyed large tracts of Russia to produce an atlas of the country. De L’Isle had undertaken this task before but it was not until the surveys of the Siberian and East Russian territories in the 1740s to 1760s that a more complete picture could be made. With a beautiful ornate title cartouche. Bagrow, L. (Russia) Vol.2, fig.73.
