A fine detailed sea chart by the French Depot de la Marine issued during the sixth year of the Republic. The chart extends from the mouth of the Avon River to Lundy Island and Caldy Island in Wales. An inset map details the ‘Rades de Tenby et Caldey’. A great deal of charting detail is to be found including a particular focus it seems on Barnstable. An inset map focuses on the harbour of Tenby.
The Depot des Cartes et Plans de la Marine was the government hydrographic service of France. It was founded in 1720 to provide the French Navy with accurate charts and was headed first by Jacques Nicolas Bellin. Tooley’s Dictionary.
