This attractive map by Bonne was published in Paris by Lattre. It appeared in the ‘Atlas Moderne ou collection de cartes sur toutes les parties du globe terrestre…’ first published in 1762. With an rococo title cartouche. Rigobert Bonne (1727-95 ) was one of the most important French cartographers of the late eighteenth century. He succeeded Jacques Bellin in 1773 as Royal Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. With his official capacity Bonne was able to compile some of the more detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne’s earlier work bore the decorative style common of the period, with many similarities to Bellin. His later work became more technically orientated lacking in any ornamentation. Shirley BL Atlases T.Bonn-1a.
