This fine map of the whole of Scotland in two sheets is by the famous Gerard Mercator and was first published in the ‘Atlantis Pars Altera’, 1595, in Duisberg. After the acquisition of Mercator’s stock in 1602 by Jodocus Hondius the production of the atlas moved to Amsterdam. The map is a great improvement over his depiction of Scotland on the wall map of the British Isles he published in 1564. With French text on the verso. Moir I p. 166; Van der Krogt, P. (Atlantes) 5801:1.1.
HONDIUS, Henricus
