This fine map of the whole of Scotland by the famous Gerard Mercator was first published in the ‘Atlantis Pars Altera’, 1595, in Duisberg. After the acquisition of Mercator’s stock in 1604 by Jodocus Hondius the production of the atlas moved to Amsterdam. The map is a great improvement over his depiction of Scotland on the wall map of the British Isles he published in 1564. With French text on the verso. Moir I p. 166; Van der Krogt, P. (Atlantes) 5800:1A.1.
HONDIUS, Henricus
