Dr. Olfert Dapper (1638-89), physician, geographical and historical scholar, was the author of a series of works dealing with Africa, Asia and America. This is the first edition of his famous account of Syria and Palestine. It contains fine views of Jerusalem, Jaffa, Damascus, Tripoli and others. The fine plates in these works are after a number of mapmakers and artists. Roehricht 1171; Tiele 301.
