This very rare map first appeared in Jean Boisseau’s ‘Tresor des Carte Geographiques’, 1643. Although earlier French works contained sets of continental maps this was the first world atlas published in France. Boisseau was an active publisher in Paris. The atlas consisted of just thirty-eight maps and was prepared for the education of the eight-year old future King Louis XIV. The maps are largely derived from Johannes Janssonius’ “Atlas Minor” first published in Amsterdam, 1628.
