One of the rarest of the early Italian maps of Cyprus with just seven known examples surviving. It is derived from an anonymous manuscript map surviving in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, which is a larger version of that published by Paolo Forlani in 1570. This map is engraved by Natale Bonifacio (1538-92) who was also a painter. He first worked in Venice before moving to Rome and eventually Antwerp. In 1570 the Turkish invaded Cyprus and there was great interest in the Island. The eleven medieval districts are depicted, a feature which is lost on later maps.
