A rare chart of Shark Bay published in the ‘Voyage de Decouvertes aux Terres Australes’, the so called Peron-Freycinet work published 1806-16. This map appears in the part entitled ‘Navigation et Geographie’. Published in 1812 by Freycinet it was issued after the death of Peron. This is the first accurate survey of the Bay and records the anchorage’s of the ‘Naturaliste’, the ‘Geographie’ and the ‘Casuarina’ and the various soundings taken. Their dates and the tracks of the vessels are also recorded. The three inset maps depict the Bay from earlier surveys undertaken by the Dutch in 1697, Dampier in 1699 and St. Alouarn in 1772. The whole is engraved by Boucler. Tooley, R.V. (Australia) 646; Perry & Prescott 1812.23.
