The fledgling Swan River colony was made the separate colony of Western Australia in 1831. In June 1833 John Arrowsmith first published this folio atlas map of the colony. Then it was entitled ‘Discoveries in Western Australia’. Further issues were published in 1838 and then this issue in 1842, each with alterations and the very latest knowledge. The tracks of various explorers were applied including those of Wilson 1829, Dale 1830-1, Preston 1831, Bannister 1831, Collie 1831-2, Hillman 1833-5, Roe 1833-6, Stirling, Bussell, Bunbury and Moore in 1836. Also depicted are plans of the Guildford, Freemantle, the town of Perth, Augusta and Kelmscott. Considered the finest of the early maps of Western Australia. Tooley 128.
