This fine map of the world in Mercator’s projection was engraved by Thomas Kitchin for the ‘London Magazine’. It was included in the issue for February 1758, at the early stages of the French and Indian, or Seven Years War. It bears fascinating cartography in the north west of America including the ‘Sea of the West’ and the results of Admiral de Fonte’s ‘voyage’. Australia is depicted without the east coast as expected. Fite & Freeman p. 181; Jolly Lond 132; Phillips Maps p. 1092.
