A fine detailed plan of Montreal at a critical point in its history. This example is one of two plates as published in the ‘London Magazine’ in October 1760. Both were issued in 1760 reflecting most probably the demand for it. Their priority has not been determined. There are subtle differences between them but the easiest manner to determine the difference is the presence, or not, of the date 1760 after ‘London Magazine’ at the top outside the neat line, this is with the date. We currently have both versions available. An inset upper right features a ‘View of the town &c of Montreal’. Jolly, D.C. (Brit Per) LOND-192; Kershaw 1097 (incorrectly citing it as a second state); Sellers & Van Ee 615.
